Genius Hour Winners Announced

JH STEM

The Junior High STEM class finished the year out with a Genius Hour project. Genius Hour is a project that allows students to pick and research their own topic based on their passions and interests. Students were required to research and learn new skills or ideas and then create a project or product from that skill or idea. Students would then have to present their entire learning process as well as their end product. This semester had projects that tied to the STEM curricula and many that did not.

Some of the projects include:

  • Solar Panel Chargers
  • Acrylic Paintings
  • Origami Skills Book
  • Homemade Cookbook for the Average Teenager
  • New exercises for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • New sock brace to help with Plantar Fasciitis
  • An original short Novel about anxiety and insomnia
  • Magnetic & Electric Motor
  • Homemade Rubik's Cube
  • Poster Boards that illustrated Sign Language, Anatomy & Physiology of the Brain, and Common Medical Disorders
  • And many others.

The top projects had the opportunity to present in front of a panel of guest judges which included teachers, administration, and community members.

The finalist for this project include:

  5. Michael Munter
  6. Garrett yager
  7. Shaynlin Smith
  8. Tyson Hunziker
  9. Olivia Shipps

 

The two students that received Runner Up were: Olivia Shipps ($50 Cash Prize from H&M Angus)  & Gracie Marks ($50 Cash Prize from Bauer Family)

The winner of this project was Shaynlin Smith ($150 Cash Prize from Town & Country Disposal)
