The past few weeks, the student's in the JH STEM class have been giving the challenge to design and build a prototype of a contraption that would collect plastic out of the ocean. Their machine or device could either collect the trash and plastic from the top of the ocean or the bottom. The given test area was 1'6" radius and 1' deep. The goals were to retrieve 15 or more pieces of trash within a minute and be sturdy enough to last through three trails. Students, using the design process, brainstormed, sketches, create 3D renderings, built, modified, and rebuilt their machine or device.
